First supplementary school for Serbian language learning within Church-school congregation in Africa
|
Assistant Minister Vukman Krivokuća and Bishop Atanasije Rakita met today with Education Minister Žarko Obradović. They informed the minister about the opening of supplementary school „St. Sava“ within St. Thomas church in Johannesburg.
School opening was initiated by Archimandrite father Pantelejmon. This is the first supplementary school for Serbian language learning within Church-school congregation in Africa. Besides, Assistant Minister Krivokuća informed Minister Obradović about the urgent need to open additional supplementary schools across European as well as in the overseas countries- Australia, America and Canada.
Krivokuća emphasized that preservation of our national identity through Serbian language learning is very important, especially for the third generation diaspora in their attempt to establish partnership with the homeland and maintain national affiliation. Obradović expressed his understanding of the matter, adding that this question has strategic significance and that it should be resolved as a joint effort of the Ministry of Education, Ministry for Diaspora and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
